Stoneway website: art, models and more
WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!

My name is Leo Squiers, and I'd like to give you a brief overview of just what goes on in our little workshop in Grapevine Texas... We're the STONEWAY GROUP, and we are a very small business, with some very big capabilities! Odds are that you learned about us from our items sold on eBay. Our eBay identity is barnumnbailey and we are known mostly for our Half-A custom model engines, tether cars and fine-art paintings. We are just getting this website put together, so please bear with us as we grow. There are many things that need to be added before it is complete, but we now have enough to make your visit worthwhile.

I've been a commercial and fine artist for more than forty years, with a background in art direction and advertising. I also have a great love for vintage gas-powered cars and U-Control planes. That explains the somewhat unusual combination of services I offer through Stoneway.

While my profession has always been graphic art, my favorite pastime has been gas models, and the many facets of design that go into them. I built my first custom Cox engine conversion in 1957. You can see my current version of that same engine in the pictures above... it's the center engine with the red anodized block. A strong design NEVER goes out of style! >Check out our SPACE HOPPER 2K on the left, and our K&B THERMAL TORNADO on the right, too. These are the kind of engines that have made us semi-legendary and almost famous... I can poke fun at myself, but these really are one-off beautiful pieces of work that turn heads at the flying field, or in the collector's den!

I design and build collectible custom conversions of Cox and other .049 engines from scratch, as well as modifying customer engines. They are strong performers, but most become prized display pieces for others like myself who love the icons of the past. Our workbench is constantly filled with new creations of our own, and customer engines being restored, performance-modified and/or color-anodized. Yes, we DO our own color anodizing! More than thirty priceless Cox RR-1 engines have now been restored by Stoneway!

For the past two years, we have specialized in converting vintage toy autos, and die-cast models into classic tether cars. Interest in this work has been enormous, and we just keep getting more creative with each one! (Stoneway is often absent from auctions, because we are just too busy making cars and engines to order.) We make tether cars from vintage toys by Hubley, Slik-Toys, Dinky and others, and make spectacular pieces from the many beautiful die-cast models of today. We also occasionally build completely from scratch! The end result is vintage style tether cars that never were, but should have been!

We're just getting started with vintage-style U-Control planes, and our graphics ability blends perfectly with the Golden Age of U-Control. Both our cars, and planes often feature original graphics that set them apart from the norm. Our trademarked FLYING COLORS laminated graphics lend an air of authentic "period-correct" cosmetic enhancement, with quality that simply could not be achieved in "the good old days".

In addition to our gas-powered creations, we offer both commercial and fine artwork to order. If you need graphics for your website or printed material, we can give you top quality at affordable prices. If your tastes run toward fine art, my expertise in most media is extensive. I do traditional watercolors, acrylics and modern abstract art as well as manual commercial illustration. There are just some graphics you can't do on a computer! Fortunately, once done by hand, they can be scanned into the computer for a blend of old-fashioned art, and digital magic that makes viewers ask "Wow, what program did you use to do that illustration?".

This site is far from complete, so if you have any questions please contact me personally: Leo Squiers at LeoSquiers@msn.com. If you have a desire for any of the varied items or services Stoneway provides, I'll bend over backwards to see that we fill that need in a high-quality and very affordable manner.

Thanks for opening this page, and please enjoy browsing our whole site... we're "filling in the blanks" as fast as possible, so check back regularly. And please be patient... In order to get finished items to our wonderful customers, we must spend a lot more time on the workbench than on the computer.

Sincerely,

Leo
