This 1:24 SCALE '58 CHEVY COUPE is a real departure from the norm!
Proof that "Good things really do come in small packages".
This palm-sized gem was made to order for a collector in Germany.
Not too surprisingly, he cruises the Autobahn in a full-scale '58 Chevy (body-off restoration) complete with major American V8 muscle...
Porsche and Mercedes guys, eat your hearts out!
The distinct lack of interior space in this one made us develop some new approaches which will surely be used on future STONEWAY conversions.
The most notable of these is the radical modification to the Cox back-plate.
Simply too large for a car this size, we removed all traces of the mounting area, leaving only a carburetor...
The engine is fixed to a "Swiss-cheesed" handmade billet aluminum motor mount, using the four back-plate assembly screws.
This gets the whole engine down to minimal dimensions, and nestles it in place to perfection.
To get power to the wheels, we went with vintage spur-gears, and set the rear axle in roller bearings for good measure.
To keep the design cosmetically "clean" we inverted the needle-valve, and machined it to accept a screwdriver which goes deeply into a recess to prevent "walking" under vibration.
This gets it totally out of sight.
Of course, we made the included custom screwdriver too...
To further clean up the exterior, the fuel filler is hidden beneath the opening hood, along with the scale 348" big block motor.
The fuel overflow dumps neatly out the bottom of the chassis.
This one has really inspired us to downsize some cars even further...
We have had numerous requests for sub-miniatures, and they will appear as we can perfect them.
So, check back to see just how far this miniaturization can be pushed before old fingers become too big to get at the parts!
