When it comes to pure "Jus' GOTTA' have one" vintage classic collectibles, THE STONEWAY "HUBLEY CUBSTER"... is one of our most requested conversions!
This classic 1930's Indy-style die-cast racer, made by Hubley during the first half of the 20th century, is the basis for a timeless gas-powered tether conversion.
(When we can get our hands on one of these beauties) we make some radical alterations to the body (after complete cosmetic restoration) and handcraft the billet engine mounts for the mint OK Cub .049B engine.
The fuel tank is modified to accept a freewheeling non-drive wheel and axle. A repositioned front axle bearing housing is made and fitted to the body, and appropriate wheels and tires are located. (Built to order, this one uses red-anodized 1:24 scale aluminum rims with neoprene enlargement inserts to properly fit the vintage Rockler rear tires... and the antique circle track front tires are boiled and stretched to proportion for the larger wheels.) We fully understand that "stance" and proportion are EVERYTHING in a car like this. And we have it "down pat"! Polished stainless steel drag link and radius rods are hand-formed and set into the coachwork and axles. A turned aluminum hand-pump and handbrake is mounted within reach of the detailed cast-iron driver. Original graphics and paint to order, complete the appearance of the piece, and it is all sealed beneath numerous coats of crystal-clear fuel-proof Lustercoat. It's fifty years ago, and you can almost SMELL THE CASTOR & NITRO, and HEAR THE CACKLE!!! Whether beginning life as a vintage toy like the Cubster, or a 1:43 to 1:12 scale die-cast model... or even a completely new Stoneway fabrication, WE MAKE GAS POWERED DREAMS COME TRUE! |
