Tether Cars: Scratch-built Kart
Stoneway tether cars: Hubley Cubster
Lovingly true to its nearly-extinct genre, this Sixties' Style TWIN-ENGINE Go Kart is Stoneway's most involved tether car to date. Not a conversion, it is 100% scratch-built from flame-soldered brass and steel, from the motor mounts to the screwed-to-the-tires flywheels, to the tube-frame, steering wheel and front end detail...

Admittedly, this one was my personal "fantasy machine". Heck I'm the builder, I'm entitled to one once in a while... Many of our friends want a tether car that evokes fond memories of full-scale vehicles they've enjoyed in years gone by. Same with me! I raced karts in the sixties, and while more sophisticated, NOTHING similar made today even approaches the unbridled, hellfire all-out performance they offered to those crazy enough to pilot them. Those outrageous toys inevitably fell victim to liability and environmental issues, making their memories all the sweeter... and their adrenalin rush is impossible to forget. Even for an old man...

It's 1962, at a long-forgotten Formula One raceway, hosting karts for the first time... At the four corners of my ride, tires "marginal" past 40 mph... Hugging my back, a trio of alcohol-burning Mac-101's at full song... The flagman leaps straight up as he misjudges my speed, and I duck under his sneakers, riding two inches off the asphalt, leaving nothing behind but the heard-for-miles, EAR-SPLITTING echo of 24,000 revs shrieking through cavernous square megaphones... and a 192 mph blue streak of pungent castor-oil...

Yeah, I had one once upon a time... It could eat a 'Vette for breakfast. And (no offense to modern-day kart racers) it didn't use no Briggs n' Stratton motor, neither! Please forgive me, but ONLY teenage grammar will do when describing vintage 2-stroke kart racing! Ah, MEMORIES!!! If we could only be sixteen again!

My friend, THAT'S the kind of memory that makes you go on a quest to put it in metal, and set it on your desk.

Maybe your dream machine was a highboy deuce roadster, or a '57 Bel-Aire ragtop... Perhaps a "lead-sled" Merc, or Ford "shoebox" or a flathead pickup... Maybe you ran the lakes in a fenderless '36 three-window, or cruised Sunset in a T-bucket, or A-bone. We've just completed a 1:24 scale '58 Chevy coupe to order. The beloved dreams are all great, they're all irreplaceable... but they all can live again in classic, handcrafted miniature. Yes, life is good! And dreams are a big part of it. That's why we build 'em!

If your memory bank harbors that special one, the kind that just thinking about, puts a tear in your eye, and a smile on your face that you just can't hide (and your Wife will NEVER understand...) maybe we can translate that memory into an heirloom you can hold in your hand. And don't worry about that little tear, and uncontrollable grin. They come standard equipment on these cars!
